"My heart is in the east, and I in the uttermost west." — Yehudah Ha-Levi

Israeli Settler, Reading the Mourner’s Kaddish, Hangs Himself by his Tefilin in Prison

Posted by Oyster on December 22, 2006

This is truly disturbing. Tefilin are termed ‘phylacteries’ in English, because they are there to protect you. They are extremely holy and the utmost physical and spiritual purity is supposed to be maintained before you put it on. To end your own life by using this holy object is sacreligious. I am shocked and I have tremendous sorrow for him and his family. He might have been a murderer, but he was still a Jew.
