ShabBat Yam Shalom

Posted by Oyster on January 12, 2007

After a stressful shlep from J’lem to Rishon L’Tzion, I finally got to see my family. Pure heaven. We went to my cousin’s family to celebrate Shabbat in Bat Yam. We got there a bit late, so I ran to catch up with my cousin’s husband at the Beit Knesset. It was an Sephardic Orthodox kehillah, so I had to work a bit to keep track in my Siddur Sim Shalom ( which is water-damaged from my geshem-meod Shabbat last week… sorry Rabbi Schonbrun!). But though I was an obvious Ashkenazi boychik, the congregants were very welcoming. I even was given some Yemeni besamim & a shot of arak! Then a wonderful Kiddush & dinner with my cousin’s family at their home. I told them, “I saw many beautiful places on my trip. The Golan, the Negev, Jerusalem. But the most beautiful thing of all is being in Israel for Shabbat with my family.” 🙂
