Jews on NPR: France Honors Righteous Gentiles

Posted by Oyster on January 18, 2007

Heard this on NPR this morning:

For years, France denied that any Frenchman (or Frenchwoman) was involved in the transportation of tens of thousands of French citizens to the Nazi deathcamps. President Jacques Chirac was the first to acknowledge their culpability as French citizens who betrayed their countrymen, even if they were under the Vichy regime. Now, Chirac also has honored the brave French who risked their lives to save their Jewish neighbors, giving a complete picture of the Holocaust in France for the French public.
