SF Synagogue Vandalized on First Night of Passover

Posted by Oyster on April 3, 2007

A vandal spray-painted a swastika on the outside of Temple Emanu-El, the largest Reform synagogue in San Francisco, on the eve of Passover. This is the time of the Passover Seder; one of the holiest times of the Jewish year.

This brings back painful memories from my time at Berkeley, when two Chabad hassids, one the Rabbi’s son, were viciously beaten by an assailant a few houses away from Rabbi Ferris’ house on the last night of Pesakh. 😦

But I am comforted; as I read earlier this evening with my family from the Haggadah:

It is this promise [of redemption] that has sustained our ancestors and us, for not just one enemy has arisen to destroy us; rather in every generation there are those who seek our destruction, but the Holy One, praised be He, saves us from their hands.

Hat tip to my friend, Vaknin.
