CBDYAG Update: SF Adventure and Spring/Summer Events

Posted by challahbackgirl on April 8, 2007

Just before Passover, on March 25, young adults from near and far, Pasadena, Santa Cruz, Redwood City, San Francisco and of course CBDYAG’s home turf, the South Bay, journeyed to SF for a fun filled day. We met at the Mountain View Caltrain station and schmoozed our way up to the city. Upon arriving we navigated our way via the Muni to the SF New York Deli in the Embarcadero Center.

We enjoyed our kosher deli sandwiches (especially with Passover fast approaching) and got to know each other more while we ate in the outdoor plaza. Despite being a bit breezy, we all had a great time and really enjoyed our lunch. I even went back for seconds. The SF New York Deli gets a big thumbs up from CBDYAGers! As JW summed it up “The food at the deli was awesome!” We then walked up the street to the Jewish (Con)temporary Museum where we had a great tour. We look forward to their new home in a year. “It was the most fun I’ve had in a museum in years,” exclaimed KB. Having a tour guide really made all the difference. She really got us to think and discuss the images. Participants described the day as fun, interesting and enlightening. Everyone left with a smile and enjoyed the great views San Francisco has. See the pictures from our adventure.

CBDYAG is commemorating Yom HaShoah with a Movie Night. Our Feature will be “Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness” a historical documentary, which tells the remarkable story of Chiune Sugihara and the Jewish Holocaust refugees that he helped to save. A discussion will follow.

Congregation Beth David hosts Shir Shabbat every 4th Friday of the month at 8pm. Every other month, April 27th included, CBDYAG sponsors Young Adult oneg after the congregational Shir Shabbat. Shir Shabbat is an upbeat and joyous Friday evening service welcoming in Shabbat, complete with Carlebachi melodies, dancing, and instruments. After the service, young adults enjoy a separate kiddush to get a chance to unwind and celebrate Shabbat. You should be there; I will!

If that’s enough, in May we’re hitting the lanes. Come show us your skills on May 19, at 9pm at Homestead Lanes to roll in the good times.

Oyster enjoys AIDS Walk SF 2006June is filled with outdoor activities. Come play basketball, ultimate Frisbee and more on June 10th at our sportsapalooza. Come hike with us on the 24th. Check our blog for details.

The heart of our group is volunteers. Thanks to those who planned these events and to all those who helped out at events. If you’re interested in volunteering we’d love to hear from you, cbdyag [at] gmail.com.

I hope everyone is having a great Passover, chag sameach! I’m looking forward to having challah back at shabbat this week and look forward to seeing you at a future CBDYAG event.
