Matisyahu is coming to town

Posted by challahbackgirl on August 14, 2007

Matisyahu and band are headlining at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, Saturday evening August 25, and playing as part of the Unity Tour with 311 at the Concourse in San Francisco on Sunday, August 26th. You’ll not want to miss this fusion of orthodox Judaism, Reggae, rock and energy. Read Oyster’s review of Matisyahu’s Shabbaton and Bay Area performances from last year.

Born Matthew Paul Miller in West Chester, Pennsylvania Matisyahu has enjoyed a lot of success in his short career, including Top Reggae Artist of 2006 by Billboard. While there has been some criticism of him from his peers in the orthodox community, he’s got a large base of raving fans to say otherwise.

He keeps shabbos and dresses like a Hasidic Jew (because he is one) and his Judaism comes out in his music. I met his wife at Jewlicious Festival 3.0, who lead a great seminar! She couldn’t be more proud of him. But don’t take our word for it, he’s got a handful of CDs and DVDs out, for when he’s not in the Oy-Bay Area to see perform live. Don’t miss these 2 performances!

where can we find more information about the Saturday night performance in SC?

  4. Eva,
The Catalyst website (see link in main post) has information in the concerts section and a little in the ticketing section. I hope that helps.

Wow, never saw the video before.

That has to be the most beautiful expression of what it is like to be at the Kotel. And it was done in a wonderful way that would be understandable by non-Jews as well.

I wonder how many non-Jews watching the video would get it?
