Warning, NSFW: Did the SF Israeli Consulate & Israel Center send out gay pr0n?

Posted by Oyster on August 6, 2008

WARNING: the following post includes images that may contain gay pornographic imagery and might not be suitable for those at work (NSFW), small children, smaller furry animals, and non-gay pr0n consumers.

The photo in question is reproduced here from an email that the SF Israeli Consulate sent out regarding the inclusion of an Israeli film in the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival last month. I received it on June 13th, in an email entitled, “Upcoming Events – Film! Art! Music! all coming soon!!”. It is also displayed on an IsraelInTheBay website. IsraelintheBay is a partnership of the Israeli Consulate and the Israel Center of the SF Jewish Federation. If you look closely at the small graphic, there is a very suspicious object next to the man’s nose & upper lip. Below is the image in the local context of the long email:

Director Yair Hochner gives us a wacky comedy that focuses on its characters’ domestic and romantic problems. And no one has more problems than gay siblings Shirley and Omer. Omer is almost thirty and still hasn’t found himself — or the man of his dreams. A series of disastrous blind dates hasn’t helped. Shirley is a little younger and has already nabbed her dream woman, Michal, owner of the hippest café in town (and Shirley’s boss). But the thought of settling down scares Shirley, who wonders if she’s ready to give up her long-held plan of traveling to Antarctica.

And here’s a larger, bigger (& uncut) version from the Frameline website:

Weirdness. I don’t know what to make of this. Perhaps they didn’t want to let SF’s BlueStar PR to have all of the fun:

[UPDATE] Sources at the Israeli Consulate tell me that this was unwittingly sent out and was not noticed as such at the time.
