Repost From their list.  Should be fun (because Torah is always fun).  Unfortunately, they will not have chulent this week, as their official Chulent-maker, is out of town.

Psalm 27 as Spiritual Preparation for the High Holidays

There is a strong custom to read Psalm 27 which begins with the words “God is my light and my helper, whom shall I fear?” every day during the month of Elul. This mizmor deals with important themes such as suffering, faith, prayer, and fear. We will study its structure, key words, and metaphors in an attempt to understand why it was chosen as the spiritual meditation for this time of year.

Emily Shapiro Katz is the director of the Tauber Jewish Studies Program at Congregation Emanuel.
