ALERT: Anti-Israel Protest in SF Tonight

Posted by Oyster on December 30, 2008

A rocket strike in a shopping mall in Ashkelon, Israel from earlier this year.

Take a look at this picture. Rockets of the type that struck this mall in Ashkelon, Israel have been hitting the region of Israel around Gaza for the past few years, including a virtually non-stop barrage on the city of Sderot. This is even after Israel gave the Gaza Strip back to the Palestinians, and uprooted all of the settlements! So much for the paradigm of “Land for Peace”…

Well, the local Israel haters would be loathe to sit on their haunches during this prime attention-getting opportunity, and they are going to be protesting Israel tonight (hat-tip to Kneidalach for the alert):

Looks like ATBOTH is helping to get the word out about the SF Voice for Israel‘s Counter-Demonstration:

What: Counter Protest in Support of Israel
Where: Israeli Consulate – 456 Montgomery Street, San Francisco
When: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 – 4:45pm

Dear Friends,

Israel is taking care of business in Gaza, and it is upon us to watch her back, here, on the streets of San Francisco. As we have seen from recent events in the region, PR war is a big part of this conflict, and “the streets” is where it’s fought, and no one will fight it but us.

Under the camouflage of “Peace Movement”, the haters and the misguided will be holding a demonstration in front of the Israeli Consulate to protest the “Holocaust in Gaza”. We ask, where were they for 3 years to “stand for peace” when Israelis were being bombed, killed and injured? We ask why are the fair-minded supporters of Palestinians not outraged by Hamas’s continuous provocations which clearly led to this defensive action, by its human shields tactics, and by its complete disregard for human life, both Israeli and Palestinian? We ask, what would United States, Turkey, Russia or China do, if 750,000 of its citizens were under constant cross-border shelling? We ask the questions that are at the heart of this conflict, the ones that no-one will ask if we are not there!

So be there, with your own questions and answers, and flags and energy, to show by our solid presence our unwavering solidarity with the Jewish State.

As always, feel free to make your own signs but please no signs or graphics offensive to any racial or ethnic group including but not limited to Arabs, Islam, or Palestinians. Signs in violation of our policies will not be allowed.

Just got back from the protest.
It almost got real ugly a few times.

Folks, the time is now to make Aliyah while we still can.
We will be making our last stand in Israel soon enough.
The time of Jacob’s trouble is at hand.

Get yourselves into Israel while you still can. Learn the lessons of the Holocaust and make Aliyah today!

    Hi Dani’el,

I’ve been in some rough protests in my day at Cal & in SF. Any fights or arrests?

Could you elaborate on “the time of Jacob’s trouble”? Is that some sort of reference to the Book of Revelations?

Are you yourself heading for Israel? If not, why?

    Oyster-
    It came real close.
The cops foolishly let the sides mix and at one point we were toe to toe and it looked bad.
The arabs were covering their faces and breathing threats, it looked bad then the cops finally stepped in and separated the sides.

On guy, a white guy, a stupid hippie with a drum was chanting “Kill the Jews” and I don’t know why but he got arrested, much to the consternation of his pali friends.

I’m off to Israel in a couple of months. You?

The time of Jacob’s trouble is from the Prophet
Jeremiah 30:7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is a time of trouble unto Jacob, but out of it shall he be saved.

    Baruch Hashem,

Don’t you think Israel should give state to the Palestinians? Of all the people, Jews should understand the desire for a state for their people. If Israelis finally got the state they wanted for so long, why can’t they give state?? Your argument for Palestinians not contributing to Israel’s wars in the past does not stand on so many levels.

100 Palestinians dying per Israelis. The excessive killings of civilians, and no remorse.. Does your god promote genocide still?

Look at the base of the problem. Stop the oppression and give Palestanians their state. Solve the problem, stop the killing.

You undermine your own weak argument by your unvarnished Antisemitism. When you are prepared to have a reasoned argument without insulting my Jewish religion and faith, you are welcome to comment further.

I’m sorry I made that comment. I was carried away by all the ruthlessness that is happening in Gaza. I am not an anti-Semitic. I believe that nationalism is harmful and religion kills and have been killing innocent lives throughout history. I believe that if any religion or faith promotes violence, we need to stop and re-consider that religion or faith.
