Wednesday, January 7, 7:15pm, Jews’ Next Dor Volunteer Meeting
Help get Jews’ Next Dor off to a good start in 2009. We’re fully volunteer led, depending on volunteers for all aspects of operations. We’re looking to make a few changes to our structure in 2009 which we’ll discuss at this meeting as well as events. We love our current volunteers, and welcome new ones. If you cannot make the meeting, we still want your participation. Send your feedback, event ideas, or if you’d like to become a Jews’ Next Dor volunteer to jewsnextdor[at]gmail.com. Wednesday, January 14, 7pm, Meet & Greet at Buca di Beppo Palo Alto
Meet & Greets are moving to the second Wednesday of the month, unless otherwise noted. We’re kicking of the 2009 Meet & Greet series with some classic Italian, vegetarian style, at Buca di Beppo in Palo Alto (643 Emerson Street). We’d love to see all Jewish 20 & 30 somethings, please RSVP to jewsnextdor[at]gmail.com. Will be around $15-20 a person. See their full dinner menu online. If you have a vegetarian request, please let us know in advance, we’ll try to accommodate as many request as possible.
Saturday, January 17, 7pm, Ice Skating
Join us on the ice or off at Logitech Ice in San Jose, 1500 S. 10th Street, San Jose, CA 95112 (at Alma, next to Municipal Stadium). $10/person (please bring cash) for ice time and skate rental. Logitech Ice offers both figure skates and hockey skates for rent. Dress appropriately, socks for in your skates, gloves, etc. If you know you’ll be stumbling be prepared to get a little wet. Sunday, January 18, 6pm “Defiance”
Thanks to Hazak, Congregation Beth David has arranged a private screening of the movie Defiance at Camera 12, 201 S. Second Street, San Jose. Jews’ Next Dor is invited, $10 a person, you can purchase your ticket(s) for $10 each online. There will be a short discussion following the movie. We’ll meet at 6pm, movie begins at 6:30pm.
Defiance is based on an extraordinary true story of family, honor, vengeance and salvation in World War II Poland. Three Jewish brothers escape certain death at the hands of the Nazis by taking refuge in the dense woods they have known since childhood. There they begin their desperate battle for survival, and plot to save thousands of other Jews as brutal winter descends. Suitable for adults and mature teens (MPAA Rating: R; 137 minutes).
Friday, January 23, 7:30pm, Potluck Shabbat
Join Jews’ Next Dor for a cozy potluck Shabbat dinner at 7:30pm on. Please bring a vegetarian or dairy dish to share. RSVP with what dish you plan to bring, please consider what others are bringing so we don’t end up with only desserts. The event will be at a private home near down town Sunnyvale. Sunday, January 25, 2pm, Paula’s Passover Cooking Party
Please join us for a special afternoon at Congregation Beth David Congregant Paula Barbarito-Levitt and her family’s San Jose home. We shall explore Pesach through the preparation of traditional haroset from countries such as Italy, Greece, Morocco and Egypt while baking your matzah in the manner of our forefathers. We’ll be baking our matzah in their wood fired oven. Space is limited to the first 25 people who RSVP to jewsnextdor[at]gmail.com, we’ll create a waiting list after that. You must RSVP via e-mail for this free event, courtesy of our hosts. Last year’s event filled up early and was said to be one of the best events of the year.
