ALTERNATIVE ENERGY: THE FUTURE IS NOW
Thursday, January 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
A panel discussion on the directions–and challenges–of alternative energy
highlighting Silicon Valley-Israel high-tech cooperation

SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY, SANTA CLARA, CA –
Have alternative-energy solutions finally reached a tipping point? Or will plummeting oil prices and bailouts swamp the way forward? The panelists of “Alternative Energy: the Future Is Now” will share their visions and the innovative technologies that are driving their companies and organizations forward.

This panel discussion also highlights the high-tech connections between Silicon Valley and Israel, which both seek solutions to the issues of energy independence and global climate change. Organized by Santa Clara University’s Jewish Student Union and Hillel of Silicon Valley, the discussion will take place January 29, 6-8 p.m. in the elegant Saint Clare Room of Santa Clara University’s Learning Commons/Library* in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Geoffrey Bowker, Moderator
Executive director, Santa Clara University’s Center for Science, Technology and Society, fostering a global network of scholars, activists, and leaders to understand social dimensions of technological change.

Allison Kopf
Student project manager of Santa Clara University’s 2009 Solar Decathlon team. In their last outing, SCU’s Solar Decathlon team won third place in the 2007 International Solar Decathlon, organized by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Amit Nisenbaum
Global operations and strategy, Better Place, leader in building an electric car network with the goals of sustainability and oil independence. Better Place was highlighted in a December 10, 2008, column by New York Times journalist Thomas Friedman.

Udi Paret
Vice president of business development & marketing. Pythagoras Solar, building cost-effective solar energy products through innovative photovoltaic technology and a winner of Scientific American’s magazine’s “50 most significant scientific breakthrough” awards.
